One Screen, No Popups

In a mass casualty event, every click is time you don't have. We tore out the modal-heavy ordering flow and rebuilt the whole interface around a single room view — patients, staff, and order queues in one place, no windows stacking on windows.

Ordering used to mean a chain of modals. Open a patient, open an action menu, confirm, dismiss, repeat — across dozens of patients under a running clock. The interface was costing clinicians the one resource the scenario is built to pressure: time.

So we rebuilt it. Two changes, one outcome:

  • A unified planning interface. The multi-step, modal-heavy ordering process is gone. Drafting and sequencing a patient’s treatment now happens in a single high-speed panel — fewer clicks, eyes on the patient instead of the UI.
  • One room context for everything. Rooms are columns in the main view that expand into a detailed panel when selected. Patient lists, staff assignments, and order queues live together in that one context. Select a patient and their full record — vitals, interventions, care plan — opens inline, not in a separate window.

Navigation follows the work, too: click a patient in the triage column and their assigned room opens automatically. The coordinator stays in flow instead of hunting through windows.
